PROJECT
Display project
Since 2022 the museum has been installed various types of displays that depict a living and historical Faroese village. The aim is to depict an environment for visitors to experience and catch a glimpse of how everyday life on the islands was in the old days.
In 2022, the first unit – a smoke room – was finished. In 2024 a glass room was added. Both units are historic recreations that depict Faroese and architectural tradition. In 2025 the follwing units were made:
-
A postal unit was made that shows the important role of the postal service in communication between villages.
-
Washing, dyeing and fulling – showing how clothes used to be washed by hand under simple conditions and how dye was used.
-
The byre – with traditional tools and facilities for the housing and farming of livestock.
-
Model of the village of Múla and surrounding mountains, rendering a visual impression of this distinctive historical place.
-
Miniature model of a smoke room, depicting the day-to-day existence of generations past.
The project includes the following units:
-
Boat house with a boat and fishing gear
-
Storehouse
-
Hay barn
-
Shed for drying grain
These installations will enable visitors to see, feel and learn about how life in a typical Faroese village used to be. This creates both cultural value and learning material for coming generations.
